Georgia mom killed in car accident, leaves behind 5-year-old

A 26-year-old Georgia woman was killed in a two-car accident, and the driver of the other car is facing several charges related to her death.

The accident occurred June 30 in Newnan, Georgia. The Georgia State Patrol said the accident happened when a black Pontiac sedan driven by a 29-year-old man and a pickup truck driven by the woman collided near Heard Elementary School. That sent the woman’s car off the road, where it struck a line of pine trees.

The woman was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta but died from her injuries there.

The Georgia State Patrol has not released the cause of the crash. The accident was still under review by the Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The man was arrested July 2 and taken to Heard County Jail. He was charged with tampering with evidence, failing to report an accident with injuries and driving without a license. Bond was set at $80,000. It is conceivable that more charges could be filed against the driver after the investigation.

The young woman who was killed leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter, according to her Facebook tribute page.

If, perhaps, the woman had received prompt medical attention, she could have survived her injuries. The criminal justice system will hear the case of the driver, but the family members of the young woman likely will want to consult with an attorney experienced in injury law. Whoever raises the woman’s child will need to see to it that the girl’s emotional and financial needs are met for the long term.
